Accessible Travel is Travel for All in Clay County

Here in Clay County, we believe that travel is meant for all, no matter your abilities. From outside adventures to getting creative and just plain having fun – we welcome you to explore Clay County and discover a welcoming community of locals ready to help you make the best of your time in the area. 

Here’s a look at some of the accessible places just waiting to be discovered in Clay County!

Enjoy the Outdoors 

Accessible playtime at Clay County Parks welcomes littles one to have fun in the sunshine. At Moody Avenue Park in Orange Park, the playground is ADA accessible with ramps, hand railings, guard rails and landing spaces. The park is also home to an ADA compliment ball field, perfect for hosting baseball and softball teams. This 15-acre park is also home to a popular wheelchair swing, allowing wheelchair uses to swing alongside others at the playground. Moody Avenue Park has covered pavilions and grills available for rent along with restroom facilities on-site.

Having fun at Spring Park, Clay County, Fl.

In Green Cove Springs, Spring Park welcomes those with differing abilities to enjoy the accessible playground overlooking the nearby St. Johns River. Encouraging inclusion, the playground offers an in-ground merry-go-round that is wheelchair accessible along with ramps and platforms for wheelchair access throughout the play area.

Biking on the Black Creek Trail, Clay County, FL.

One of Clay County’s most popular biking and walking trails is the Black Creek Park and Trail – and it is accessible. Adjacent to Highway 17, this 8-mile paved path connects bikers and walkers to points between Orange Park, Fleming Island and Green Cove Springs. Black Creek Park serves as a starting/ending location with parking, a covered pavilion and restrooms. The park also serves as the starting point for the mountain bike course that runs two miles through the park. Existing trailheads are at Black Creek Park, Thunderbolt Park and Camp Chowenwaw County Park.

For those ready to have some fun being creative, check out The Art Room in Green Cove Springs. Located along bustling Walnut Street, this hands-on, learning center offers a variety of art classes ranging from sewing, painting, pottery, mixed media and more. Classes for those with differing abilities are offered on a weekly basis. Get messy and create art!

At the GetAir Trampoline Park in Orange Park, jumpers of all abilities can enjoy their own dedicated time for fun each month. Held on the first Saturday morning of each month from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., Music is played at a lower volume and the park’s atmosphere is calmer. Siblings are welcome to participate and One parent or guardian can support jumpers on the trampoline for free.

2nd Annual Autism Carnival, Clay County, FL.

The 2nd Annual Autism Carnival returns to The Grove at the Orange Park Mall on April 29, 2023. Designed as an event for the autism community, this outdoor event will feature bounce houses, a foam pit, water slides, dunk tanks, outdoor games and local food trucks. Fifty percent of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Florida Autism Center. 

So, get ready to explore Clay County – home to an accepting community with activities and events welcoming travelers of all abilities.
