An exciting, spectator event is making its way to Clay County this December 30 with the Florida Peacemaker’s Cowboy Mounted Shooting Florida State Championship at the Clay County Fairgrounds. The excitement continues on December 31 and January 1, 2023 with a two-day, four stage shootout competition.
What is Cowboy Mounted Shooting?
Known to be one of the fastest growing and most exciting equestrian sports in America, cowboy mounted shooting combines elements of a Wild West Show exhibition shooting along with the skills of barrel racing, pole bending and reigning while using two .45 caliber single action revolvers loaded with black powder blanks.
The object of the game is to shoot ten balloon targets while riding your mount through a variety of challenging courses. It’s a timed sport in which the competitor who rides the fastest with the least number of missed targets wins.
What to Expect at The Event
Held at the Clay County Fairgrounds, this family-friendly, three-day event features riders of all ages with over 200 entries joining the competition in age divisions with men’s and ladies events ranging from rifle, shotgun and Cavalry competitions. A special Wrangler’s Division features competitors 11 years old and under. Winners of each group are determined by the competitor that rides the fastest with the least number of targets missed. Parking and spectator admission are free for this one-day event. To learn more about the Florida Peacemakers Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, go to www.flpeacemakers.com.
