Here’s a look at what shows and theatre productions are making their way to Clay County in 2023!
The Island Theater
In Fleming Island, The Island Theater features a season of shows throughout the year along with acting workshops and summer camps. Junior workshops in 2023 include Finding Nemo, Jr., Into the Woods Jr. and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Jr. perfect for children – as spectators and participants in the show!
In 2023, the troupe has a vibrant lineup of live shows including School of Rock, Newsies, Peter Pan, Godspell and more. With the popularity of the theater, many shows sell out in advance so plan ahead and buy your tickets early. The theater prides itself on educating children on the theater community, how to prepare for auditions and different roles within the performing arts.
Orange Park Community Theatre
For more community theater, Orange Park Community Theatre highlights shows ranging from musicals to dramas with season ticket packages available. Since opening in May 1969, the theater has performed at its current location since 1987 performing family-friendly shows year-round.
Auditions for shows take place throughout the year with summer workshops held during the summer and fall for children wanting to learn and participate in show production. Upcoming shows for the 2023 season include Little Women, Little Shop of Horrors, the Great American Trailer Park and Nana Does Vegas.
Thrasher-Horne Center
Located on the campus of St. Johns River State College’s main campus in Orange Park, the Thrasher-Horne Center is home to two art galleries, regional meetings, touring shows and Broadway productions offering residents and visitors an exciting experience with a small-town atmosphere.
Nationally-known musicians and performers and well-known productions are just some of the hundreds of events to be hosted at the center’s Main Stage Theater. With 1,728 seats, the Main Stage Theater offers visitors a venue with modern technology and offers two levels of audience seating: a spacious raked floor level and a stadium-style balcony with six private boxes. The lobby offers two concession areas, coat check, box office and the members only Circle Club.
Upcoming shows in 2023 include Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two Woman Show, the Blue Man Group, country star Sara Evans, rocker Rick Springfield and 1964: The Tribute with music of The Beatles.
Just off the main lobby of the building, you’ll find the Jack Mitchell and Lee Adams Galleries featuring each artists’ works located in the Mary Ward Huntley Wing. While selected works are permanently displayed throughout Thrasher-Horne Center, the center updates exhibits throughout the year.
